Does the BabyDam really work?

I remember seeing the viral BabyDam video and immediately being intrigued with it. But when I showed my husband—he was skeptical.

“There’s no way that thing doesn’t leak,” he told me.

Well, only one way to find out! We got ours in the mail super quickly and tried it out for ourselves. I think my husband is still a little unhappy to admit that I was right—this product is definitely one to add to our baby must-have list!

For starters, the installation is a BREEZE, and this is coming from a mom who has trouble setting up the Pack N Play (I will shamelessly admit this). I was so excited at how simple it was because now I don’t have to wait for my husband to do bath time, which in turn saves me a ton of time. 🙂 Plus, it saves time in general during bath time because I’m only filling up half the tub.  Which means…

It also saves a ton of water. I’ve often thought about this while giving Kensington a bath, especially now that she is old enough to want more water to splash around in. We use SO much water every single bath… But with the BabyDam, I only have to fill up half of my tub.  The other half of the tub is completely dry and saved for towels, extra toys, or even for me to sit in so it’s easier for me to bathe the baby.

I will say, one of our biggest concerns off the bat was the faucet. You could invest in a faucet cover, or you could just do what we did: use a large pitcher and transfer the water from the faucet to the opposite side of the tub. Honestly, it was so easy and now Kensington isn’t in danger of bumping her head on accident and we don’t have to invest in a faucet cover! Although… some of them are really cute. I can’t say I won’t be buying one in the future. 🙂

There is one thing you need to be aware of before buying the BabyDam: it is not compatible with all tubs. BUT it is compatible with most. Your tub needs to be a standard sized tub with no texture on the bottom or else the suction cups will not function properly. If you have any other tub compatibility questions, check out the BabyDam’s website here.

I’ve also seen a ton of other ideas for this product on Instagram, including bath dividers for two children, a pet bath, and even a foot bath for mom (um hello, yes please!). I really think this product is going to be revolutionary for saving water, time, and money, because now there’s a baby bath that will grow with your baby.

  1. Good to know! My husband and I were recently talking about this because our 18 month old is about grown out of her little bath tub. We were also very skeptical, but it looks like we’ll have to try it out.

  2. I have been looking at these. Once the baby is a little older I think this will be the next bath accessory we buy. It will be so nice to not have for fill up the whole bathtub.

    1. Hi Clair! That is awesome! I’m so glad to know another momma who loves the product! Most of my mom friends are still like “What is the BabyDam?”

    1. Hi Jillian! Yes! It’s totally genius! Definitely one of those things where I’m like… Why didn’t I think of this?!?! 🙂

  3. Such a neat tool! And how genius to transfer the water to the other end of the tub to avoid the spout! Definitely trying one of these! Thanks!
